Removing
Shafts from Club Heads
We often hear
from frustrated golfers who had difficulty removing shafts from
their club heads. Sometimes, it takes a considerable amount of time
removing a shaft, taking away from time better spent playing golf.
Harrison recommends
a couple of different approaches to removing shafts that make the
entire process a lot easier. First, you should consider having the
work done by a certified professional club maker. If you should
choose to perform the work yourself, you must first decide if you
want to save the shaft for additional play or replace it with a
new one.
1. If the shaft
is not broken and you want to re-use it, we recommend the following:
Cut the shaft at the end of the hosel, and then clean out the hosel
with a drill bit. Please bear in mind that this shaft will now play
a bit stiffer because it has been tip cut 1".
2. If the shaft
is broken, and cannot be reused, Cut the shaft at the end of the
hosel, and then clean out the hosel with a drill bit.
Naturally, if
you have a shaft puller, this entire task can be accomplished with
ease. However, if you only have one broken club, it may not justify
the expense to acquire one.
